The Tsengwen Reservoir is located on the upper reaches of the Tsengwen River. The dam, being 133 meters high and 400 meters long, is not only the largest earth and rock-fill structure in the Far East, but also is an example of outstanding engineering and site planning. Possessing multi-purpose functions, the Tsengwen Reservoir can store 708 million cubic meters of water when it is filled to capacity and provide irrigation water for 78,961 hectares of farmland in the Chianan plain along the southwestern coast of Taiwan. Construction began in 1967. The Tsengwen Reservoir Project was completed in less than six years and started services at the end of October 1973. The Reservoir contributes greatly to the economic development of the Chianan plain and, significantly, to the whole island as well. In addition, it is one of the outstanding sightseeing attractions of Taiwan.　　This set of five horizontal stamps comprises a strip of three stamps and two singles, but the strip itself is in vertical type.A bird’s-eye view of the Tsengwen Reservoir is taken as the motif of the strip, while the front view of the power intake and a picture of spillway forms the designs of two singles. Also, every whole sheet of the strip of three 1.00 stamps consists of 45 stamps in three blocks; every block has five strips. The arrangement of the strip is different from the former ones.
