The Asian-Oceanic Postal Union was formally established in 1962 encompassing the Asia and Oceania region, its members by 1971 including Australia, Republic of China, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Laos, New Zealand, the Philippines, and Thailand. The benefits of this international Postal organization are farreaching. In order to mark the Asian-Oceanic Postal Union Executive Committee 1971 Session (AOPUEC ’71) held in Taipei on November 8-15, 1971, a set of stamps was issued. This set of stamps takes as central design the Asian-Oceanic Postal Union (AOPU) emblem, a large powerful bird in flight, symbolizing postal services in operation.
