The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), a specialized agency of the United Nations, was created to promote international cooperation in meteorological observations and to further the application of meteorology to aviation, shipping, water problems, agriculture, and other activities of society. To mark its 10th Annual Day as well as to promote the public understanding of the close relation between meteorology and people, a set of commemorative postage stamps was issued.
