The Republic of China and the Republic of the Philippines have long maintained cordial relations. To establish even closer friendship ties, President Chiang Kai-shek and President Ferdinand E. Marcos on March 25, 1966 proclaimed 1966-1967 as〝China-Philippines Friendship Year.〞To mark this internationally and historically important event, each government agreed to issue a set of commemorative postage stamps within the year 1967. A set of 〝China-Philippines Friendship Year 1966-1967 Commemorative Postage Stamps〞 was issued on December 30, 1967, the 71st anniversary of the martyrdom of Jose Rizal (1861-1896), the most well-known national hero of the Republic of the Philippines. The stamps, consisting of 1.00 and 5.00 denominations, show the national flags of the Republic of China and the Republic of the Philippines as the central design with the China Park in Manila as the background.
