Mr. Lin Sen, the late Chairman of the National Government, Republic of China, was born in Fukien province on February 11, 1867. He was one of the early devoted followers of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, our National Father, during the revolutionary movement for overthrowing the Manchu Monarchy. After the founding of the Republic of China, he made invaluable contributions and performed numerous important duties in the Central Government. He was elected Chairman of the National Government in 1931 and served in that capacity for thirteen years. China owes much to the late Chairman Lin for his leadership in resisting aggression during the Sino-Japanese War and for his part in driving out the invaders. He passed away in the wartime capital, Chungking (Szechwan), on August 1, 1943, when victory was in sight. To celebrate the 100th birthday of the late Chairman Lin Sen, a commemorative postage stamp was issued in vertical type with the late Chairman's portrait as the central design.
