In 1960 the Executive Committee of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) at its twelfth session passed a resolution to observe the March 23 each year, from 1961, as the World Meteorological Day. As the Republic of China is one of the member countries of the Organization, a set of 〝Second Annual Meteorological Day Commemorative Postage Stamp〞 was issued to arouse public attention in the importance of meteorology and its close relationship to man.　　The stamps consist of 0.80, 1.00 and 2.00 denominations. The 0.80 stamp, in vertical type, has the Yu Shan Observation Station as the central design. The 2.00 stamp, also in vertical type, has an observation ballon as the central subject against a background of a globe with three vectors floating over stratocumulus clouds symbolizing the direction of a typhoon. Both stamps were issued on March 23, 1962. The 1.00 stamp was issued on May 7, 1962, when a 〝Precautions againt Typhoon Week〞was begun in Taiwan. In order to stimulate the public to take precautions against typhoons, the central design of the 1.00 stamp shows a route map of Typhoon Pamela sweeping over Taiwan in Septmber 19961.
