The installation by the National Tsing Hua University Institute of Nuclear Science of our first Atomic Reactor was completed on April 13, 1961. With the beginning of operation of this one million watt capacity reactor, a new age for the nation was ushered in of nuclear research in the fields of industry, agriculture, and medical therapy. In order to celebrate this important achievement and to acquaint the public with the significance of scientific research, a set of 〝Atomic Reactor〞commemorative postage stamps was issued. The 0.80 stamp was issued on December 2, 1961-the inauguration day of the Atomic Reactor, while the other two stamps were issued later on March 20, 1962.
