The 13th Session of the United Nations General Assembly declared the year beginning June 1959 as 〝World Refugee Year.〞 The purpose was to urge the people in all walks of life to give attention to the refugee problem, to encourage government and civic agencies to make contributions for the relief of refugees, and to resettle homeless refugees. In order to promote the World Refugee Year, the National Committee of the Republic of China for the World Refugee Year duly organized in our country began work on June 15, 1959. To support such a significant international campaign, a set of 〝World Refugee Year〞commemorative stamps was issued.
