In a meeting held on July 24, 1957, the Committee of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations passed a resolution to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights by the issue of commemorative stamps in all countries on December 10, 1958. The request was conveyed to member Postal Administrations through the International Bureau of the Universal Postal Union. The commemorative stamps were issued in our country on a design depicting a globe encircled with the flame from a liberty torch to signify that the claim to human rights has spread to all peoples throughout the world irrespective of race, sex or religion.
