The Tangshan-Sukochwang section of the Peiping-Liaoning railway covering a distance of 18 li was the first railway built in our country for transport of coal in Hopeh province. It was constructed in 1881 and completed its seventy-fifth year of service on June 9, 1956. To commemorate this occasion, a set of commemorative stamps was issued with the picture of the earliest locomotive No. zero (running between Tangshan and Sukochwang) as the central design and the latest locomotive (now used on the main trunk line in Taiwan) as the background to serve as an illustration of the improvement made during the past seventy-five years.
