The National Army, starting on the Northern Expedition from Canton on July 9, 1926, marched rapidly north and conquered in rapid succession the provinces of Hunan, Hupeh, Fukien, Kiangsi, Chekiang and Kiangsu, thus placing the Yangtze valley completely under the control of the National Government. In 1927 the national capital was moved to Nanking. In 1928 the Revolutionary Army continued its Northern Expedition and took Shantung, Hopeh, etc., within half a year. At the end of that year the flag of the National Government was flying in the four Northeastern Provinces, completing the task of the unification of the country.　　The National Revolutionary Armed Forces under the leadership of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek were also responsible for winning the war against Japan.　　In order to commemorate these successful exploits of our Armed Forces, the Government designated September 3, Victory Day, as Armed Forces Day.　　According to the instructions of the Ministry of Communications, the usual wording〝中華民國郵政〞(Postal Administration of the Republic of China) printed on the stamp was changed from this issue to〝中華民國郵票〞(postage stamp of the Republic of China).
