To help promote respect for school teachers, the Government chose the birthday of Confucius as Teacher's Day· In 1947 a set of commemorative stamps was issued in the following four denominations based chiefly on the record of Confucius' career·

$500 Confucius' portrait is the central design·

$800 The central design is a hall, where, it is said, Cofucius taught his pupils·

$1,250 The design is the tomb of Confucius with a stone monument at the front bearing the characters 〝大成至聖文宣王墓〞,(Tomb of the Greatest and Most Respected Sage, Confucius) of which the upper five characters are still distinguishable·

$1,800 The design is the Hall of Confucius' Temple·

The stamps of $500 denomination were hastily printed by means of offset process and placed on sale on Teacher's Day, while the other denominations were printed in intaglio and issued on October 17 in the same year·
