Following three releases of “Jade Articles from the National Palace Museum” in 2019 and 2020, Chunghwa Post has followed up with “Jade Articles from the National Palace Museum Postage Stamps (Continued III),” which is a set of four stamps. The designs of the stamps follow: 1. Jade Huan Ring with Dragon Pattern, Han dynasty (NT$6): The work forms a stable ring, and the designer deftly crafted the eyes, head, and neck of the dragon to create a visually impactful sense of the dragon looking downward. Matched with the dragon’s outward extended right and left clawed feet, there is a sense that this awe-inspiring dragon is about to leap forward.2. Jade Xi Pointed Pendant with Dragon Pattern, Warring States period (NT$15): The curves of the dragon’s chest and long tail create a sense of visual tension. What is more, its neck and left and right clawed feet point in different directions, and as the viewer’s eyes move back and forth between them, one almost becomes uncertain of which is left, and which is right. 3. Jade Beast Pendant, Warring States period (NT$20): The designer made use of curved edges to outline the beast’s mane, back and long tail, forming a downward arc that is full of visual tension. Coupled with a sense of strength imparted by the beast’s coiled mane and tail, the work simultaneously engenders a sense of immoveable solidity and powerful forward momentum. 4. Jade Bi Disc-shaped Work with Beast and Monkey Pattern, Han dynasty (NT$28): Three beast gods, as well as two monkeys and one long snake, are entwined to form a circle. Their heads, bodies, feet, and tails combine to create a serpentine effect, and with their heads, necks and feet twisting in different directions, there is also an illusion of great power and dynamism.
