It is generally recognized that a national flag is the symbol of the dignity and spirit of a nation. To stimulate the patriotism of our people at home and abroad and through the mails to make Chinese national flag flying the world over, a set of 〝National Flag Postage Stamps〞was released. The 10.00 denomination was issued on January 23, 1979, while all other denominations were issued on November 12, 1978. There were two booklets issued, one on October 10 (Type A) and one October 25 (Type B), 1979. Type A sold at 50.00 each, the contents of which are three 1.00 stamps, nine 2.00 stamps, one each of 5.00, 6.00, 8.00, and 10.00 stamps. Type B sold for 30.00 and consists of fifteen 2.00 stamps. The design and color of the stamps in the booklets are similar to those of National Flag Postage Stamps previously released, with only slight differences in the stamps. First, one side of the stamps is imperforate (only three sides with perforation). Second, there are inscriptions on the margins of the stamps at the top and at the bottom of each booklet. On the top of the front cover, there is the national flag, while on the center is the vertical caption 〝Chinese Post Office Postage Stamp Booklet,〞flanked by a branch of plum blossoms. The back cover is printed with the postal emblem, Chinese lettering 〝the 68th year of the Republic of China,〞 〝issued by the Directorate General of Posts, Ministry of Communications,〞and the selling price in NT dollars. The wording appearing on the inside of the front cover are four sentences of instructions from the late President Chiang. On the inside of the back cover, the National Flag Song is printed. Later, there were two booklets issued, one on January 23 (Type A) and one April 24 (Type B), 1980. The stamps in Type A were the same as those contained in the booklet released October 10, 1979 and the stamps in Type B the same as those contained in the booklet released October 25, 1979, except that the color of the margin was changed from blue to green or red. The covers for these newly printed booklets were, however, different from the previous ones in three respects: (1) The design of the cover was changed into the Presidential Mansion and the national flag. (2) The wording appearing on the inside of the front cover was changed into the calligraphy of the late President Chiang. (3) The back cover was printed with a postal emblem, Chinese lettering 〝the 69th year of the Republic of China,〞〝issued by the Directorate General of Posts, Ministry of Communications,〞 and the selling price in NT dollars.
