Classical Chinese Poetry Stamps (Issue of 2019)
To promote understanding of Chinese classical literature, Chunghwa Post issued a set of stamps on classical poetry on July 6, 2018. It is now following up with a set of four stamps on poems featuring the four seasons that use quatrains with seven-character lines: Bai Juyi's “Spring Wind,” Fan Chengda's “Summer Fun on the Farm,” Du Mu's “An Autumn Evening,” and Zheng Banqiao's “After Snowfall in the Mountains.” The poems follow:
1. “Spring Wind,” Bai Juyi (NT$6): “When spring wind blows, plums bloom first in the palace garden / Cherries, apricots, peaches and pears then follow one after another / In villages water chestnuts and elms join in as if to say: / The spring wind has come for us too.”
2. “Summer Fun on the Farm,” Fan Chengda (NT$8): “Weeding the fields during the day, twisting linen at night / The men and women of the village each have their own jobs to do / Although children don't know yet how to plow or weave / Even they are learning how to plant gourds.”
3. “An Autumn Evening,” Du Mu (NT$9): “A candle flickers against a painted screen on a cool autumn night / She flicks her small silk fan at darting fireflies / The sky arches darkly above as frigid as deep water / As she sits gazing upon the cowherd and weaver girl in the sky.”
4. “After Snowfall in the Mountains,” Zheng Banqiao (NT$15): “Opening the door in the morning reveals the hills covered in snow / And the cool sunlight filtering through light morning clouds / The snow remains piled on the eaves and the plum blossoms frozen / What a cold and weirdly forsaken ambiance!”

The stamps were illustrated by Shen Cheen, designed by Delta Design Corporation and printed by China Color Printing Co., Ltd. in color offset. A first-day cover, folders with and without crystal mounts, a loose-leaf album page and maximum cards will be released along with the stamps and will go on sale on June 10, 2019. A pre-cancelled FDC with a NT$6 stamp or the full set of stamps will go on sale on June 12, the stamps' date of issuance.
