1. Account opening and documents for application
 
(1) Overseas Chinese:
  Present a valid residency permit and passport or an identity certificate for overseas Chinese issued by the Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission. Applicants without a valid permit are required to present a "Record of ID Number in the Republic of China"(available upon request from the branch offices of National Immigration Agency; inquiry hotline: 02-2388-9393; 0800-024-111).
(2) Foreigners:
  Present a valid residency permit and passport. Applicants without a valid permit are required to present a "Record of ID Number in the Republic of China"(available upon request from the branch offices of National Immigration Agency; inquiry hotline: 02-2388-9393; 0800-024-111).
  All post offices in Taiwan are available for applying with the above documents and more than 10 NT dollars. Otherwise, two application form and one deposit order are required to be filled in when applying.
2. Types of account:
 
(1) Joint Passbook Savings Account
  The account holder must create a 4-digit passbook password when opening an account, and affix a seal in the "Authorized Seal" column of the passbook (signatures are not permitted, but seals with English names or translated names in Chinese are permitted). The account holder can make deposits or withdrawals at any network post office in Taiwan, by presenting the passbook together with the authorized seal.
(2) Ordinary Account
  The account holder does not have to create a passbook password when opening an account, and is allowed to use a signature instead of a seal. Deposits can be made at all network post offices, but withdrawals must be made at the branch where the account was opened, by presenting the passbook together with the authorized seal. If a signature is used instead of a seal, kindly present your passport or residency permit when making withdrawals.
3. Features of the operation

(10) Voice account transfers between passbook accounts and giro accounts
(11) 24-hour telephone voice service: For declaring loss of passbook and ATM card, and for enquiring balance of passbook savings, interest rate and no updated information and contractual account transfers.

4. Proof of Deposit
 
(1) Description:
  If for any reason, such as overseas travel, visiting relatives, studying etc, the account holder needs a proof of deposit, he/she may present the passbook together with an ID to the branch where the account was opened. Joint passbook savings account holders can request withdrawals from any network branch.
(2) Attention:
  Proof of deposit is available in Chinese and English; kindly specify the desired language and number of copies in your request. Each proof of deposit costs NT$20; any subsequent copies are charged at NT$10 per copy.
