To promote universal sport activities a set of two 5.00 stamp was released on Athletics Day, September 9, 1981. The stamps depict women's soccer and are printed in a horizontal pairs.
Soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world. The Mu-lan Girls' Soccer Team was formed in 1977 in the Republic of China.It participated in the 2nd Asian Cup Women's Soccer Tournament in August of that year. The Mu-lan team won the championship by winning every game. The team then captured the first place crown in both the 1980 and 1981 tournaments. It addition, the team won a complete victory in the Women's Invitational Football Tournament in August, 1980.
