Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade Commemorative Issue

Following the decision of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) to permit Taiwan to hold the games, the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade is to be held in Taipei August 19-30, 2017. Around 150 countries will be sending contestants, which will increase Taiwan’s profile on the international stage and encourage enthusiasm for sport within the country. To mark this event, Chunghwa Post is issuing a set of 8 stamps and a souvenir sheet for the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade. The designs follow:
Stamps (NT$5 and NT$15 [four of each denomination]): Specially designed in the parallelogram format, the eight stamps are set in two adjacent rows of four and depict the eight popular sports in which Taiwanese athletes will compete: weight-lifting, archery, athletics, taekwondo, baseball, basketball, volleyball and table tennis with the mascot - Bravo Bear, and the logo of the games. In the background a line drawing shows the setting or items proper to each sport. The shaped perforation between the two sides of each stamp includes the flame of the games.
Souvenir Sheet (NT$ 25): The souvenir sheet employs calligraphic strokes to depict the beautiful movements of each sport in which Taiwanese athletes will compete: weight-lifting, archery, athletics, volleyball, taekwondo, table tennis, basketball, and baseball. The marginal inscription includes the logo of the games, the mascot - Bravo Bear, and drawings of the Taipei skyscape. The shaped perforation on the two sides of the stamp includes the flame of the games.
This set is designed by Highlight Creative Co., Ltd. and printed by
Security Printing Unit of La Poste (France) in color offset. Parts of the design of the souvenir sheet are embossed and varnished. By-issues including a first day cover, folders with or without crystal mounts and a loose-leaf album page will be released along with the stamps and will go on sale on August 14, 2017. A pre-canceled FDC with the full set of the stamps or a souvenir sheet and a stamp folio will go on sale on August 16, 2017, the stamps’ date of issuance.
